Global Symposium on Racing Speaker: Steve Cauthen
Kentucky native Steve Cauthen was the Eclipse Award winner for both outstanding jockey and apprentice jockey in 1977, setting an earnings record of $6 million and winning 487 races at the age of 17. The following year, he rode Hall of Famer Affirmed to a sweep of the Triple Crown. Cauthen continued his success in England, where he was champion jockey three times and won a total of 10 British classics. Overall, Cauthen won 2,794 races. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1994.
