Global Symposium on Racing Speaker: Peter Sacopulos

Peter Sacopulos is a graduate of Tulane University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction. He also holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law-Indianapolis. He is admitted to practice in both Indiana and Illinois. After graduating from law school, he joined the former and late United States Supreme Court Justice Abraham Fortas' law firm, Fortas, Prokop and Hardman, in Washington, D.C. For more than 35 years he has practiced law before administrative agencies, and in both state and federal courts. He is a partner in the law firm of Sacopulos & Sacopulos, an AV Preeminent rated law firm by Martindale Hubbell. Mr. Sacopulos was appointed to the Indiana Thoroughbred Breed Development Advisory Committee by then Indiana Governor and former United States Vice President, Mike Pence. Mr. Sacopulos serves as National Counsel for the North American Association of Racetrack Veterinarians (NAARV).

He has published more than 50 articles on various aspects of equine law. His publications appear in Trainer magazine and The Horsemen’s Journal. He has presented at national conferences including the National Equine Law Conference, Gaming and Racing Conference in Saratoga, and at the National Horsemen Benevolent and Protective Association Conference.

Mr. Sacopulos represents licensees before state agencies and federal regulatory commissions as well as in a wide range of equine matters including liveryman liens, foal share agreements, syndication of stallions, and insurance and contractual disputes. He also has and continues to represent licensees including veterinarians, trainers, owners, and track officials in both administrative and judicial proceedings.

Mr. Sacopulos is an adjunct professor at Louis D. Brandeis School of Law where he teaches “Regulatory Law In The Thoroughbred Industry”. He has also served as a lecturer for the Racing Officials Accreditation Program.
