Speaker Series: Alexa Ravit, HIWU

The Race Track Industry Program (RTIP) recently welcomed back alumna Alexa Ravit, a 2017 graduate who has built an impressive career in the horse racing industry.
Alexa currently serves as the Director of Communications for the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU), a role she has held for the past three years. Before joining HIWU, she spent five years with The Jockey Club, gaining valuable industry experience and insight.
HIWU is the enforcement arm of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA)’s Anti-Doping and Medication Control (ADMC) Program. While HISA creates the rules, HIWU ensures those rules are carried out, operating under the umbrella of Drug Free Sport International.
Recently, HIWU launched an outreach and education program that Alexa was influential in to help horsemen and horsemen’s groups improve stable hygiene and reduce cross-contamination risks that were discovered during testing. This initiative included posters, booklets, and videos distributed across tracks, as well as Listening Tours with horsemen’s groups to address their concerns and questions.
“It’s important to get as much practical experience as you can while you’re in school,” Alexa emphasized. Her career highlights how RTIP graduates continue to shape the future of horse racing. From student internships to leading communications at HIWU, her story is a reminder that early experiences and dedication can open doors to meaningful work that improves the integrity and safety of the sport.
