Racing Secretary Summit to Provide Track-Specific Data to Help Shape the Future of Racing Programs
Tucson, AZ – Racing office leaders from across the industry will gather Monday, December 7 at the Global Symposium on Racing for the 6th Annual Racing Secretary Summit. The working session will focus on the challenges, opportunities, and decisions that will shape racing operations in the years ahead. Topics will include the size of the foal crop, horse supply, field sizes, scheduling, racing programs, attracting and retaining horsemen and the changing needs of horseplayers. Workshop leaders are a distinguished group of racing department executives: Mike Lakow, Rick Hammerle, Ben Huffman, Martin Panza, Pat Pope and Tom Robbins.
A key feature of this year’s Summit will be an opportunity for participating racetracks to receive a free, custom analysis of their own horse population. InCompass Solutions, Equibase and Wilson Shirley will provide structured data specific to each track, allowing racing offices to examine their current horse population, identify trends and better understand the opportunities and challenges facing their racing program. Race tracks interested in receiving a custom report must register for the Racing Secretary Summit by Wednesday, October 21 to allow sufficient time for their personalized data to be compiled and analyzed.Trainers will also participate in the discussion, providing the horsemen’s perspective on the challenges facing racing operations and the factors that influence where and when owners and trainers choose to race.

“The Racing Secretary Summit has always been about bringing racing office leaders together to have an honest conversation about the issues they are dealing with every day,” said Robert Hartman, Chair of the University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program. “This year, we are taking that conversation a step further by giving participants data specific to their own racing operation. Our goal is to provide information they can take back to their tracks and use as they make decisions about their racing programs and plan for the future.” Hartman also credited RTIP alumni Rick Hammerle, Martin Panza and Chris Dobbins for their work in developing this year’s Summit. “Their experience and perspective have been invaluable in helping us put together a program that addresses the issues racing offices are facing today,” Hartman said.
