Packed house at the 2021 Global Symposium on Racing

The University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program will host the 48th annual Global Symposium on Racing from December 5 – 7, 2022.  Racing executives from around the world will convene at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson to examine issues and trends across the three racing breeds.

The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority’s (HISA) two programs - the Racetrack Safety Program and the Anti-Doping and Medication Control  (ADMC) Program will be a key focus with presentations by leaders of both Programs. The ADMC conversation is especially timely given the Program’s implementation is set for January 1, 2023. In addition, attendees will hear from HISA Chief Executive Officer, Lisa Lazarus, who will provide a 2023 outlook.

The 2022 Symposium will feature the following topics:

  • Advancing Equine Safety through Technology
  • Life After the Track – Second Careers & Retirement

  • Expanding Racing’s Reach: Strategies for Diversity and Inclusion
  • What the Hashtag? Exploring the Importance of Social Media in Horse Racing
  • Illegal Betting’s Threat to the Racing Industry

Join legends Tom Durkin and Dave Johnson, alongside current Gulfstream Park announcer Pete Aiello, discussing the art of announcing races. The evolution of the craft over the past 50 years will be discussed by the sport’s announcing trailblazers. Hear the stories as only the storytelling icons can tell!
