Tanya Boulmetis

Tanya is originally from Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. Her introduction to racing occurred at Northlands Park where she became a groom at 15 years old. She moonlighted as a Mutual teller at both Northlands and Woodbine in addition to her backside employment. Her career has been industry focused for over 40 years. She has been licensed in various capacities in the US, Canada, and Japan. There is no area within horseracing she has not explored. Prior to obtaining her trainers license in 1998, she had a short stint as a quarter horse jockey at Picov Downs just outside of Toronto. She has run a public stable in Canada, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Mid-West. She was an Owner and Breeder and represented many clients at various sales.

In 2013, Tanya was accepted into the University of Kentucky College of Law. She graduated in 2.5 years, passed the Kentucky bar in 2015, then was a civil attorney concentrating in equine matters.

Wanting to return to her roots in racing with the goal of changing to the regulatory side, she became ROAP certified in 2016, is a Level 2 Judge/Level 1 Steward, and has worked in Ohio, New York, and Iowa. In 2022, she started her current position as a Deputy Director of the Ohio State Racing Commission.

When she has free time, Tanya enjoys renovating houses, reading, hiking, traveling, horses, and her cat and dog.
