RTIP students had the luxury of talking to a legendary trainer, Doug O'Neill, who has won races all over the world.
Doug O’Neill is one of the most recognized and accomplished Thoroughbred trainers in modern racing. Born in Michigan, O’Neill’s introduction to horse racing began at a young age when his father took him to Santa Anita Park. That experience sparked a passion that would shape his future career.
After completing his studies, Doug entered the racing industry in the humblest of ways, working as a hot walker. He quickly rose through the ranks before deciding to go out as a trainer on his own. Over the course of his career, O’Neill has earned international recognition, with victories in major stakes races across the globe. He is best known as a two-time Kentucky Derby–winning trainer.
O'Neill believes that horse racing must reinvent itself to engage new audiences and provide a more interactive, hands-on experience for new owners. This forward-thinking attitude highlights his awareness of the evolving landscape of sports entertainment and his desire to ensure the long-term sustainability of racing.
