The Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson will be the epicenter of the horse racing world from December 9-11, 2024, as it hosts the 2024 Global Symposium on Racing. This milestone event, celebrating its 50th anniversary, will bring together industry executives and experts from around the globe for three days of engaging discussions on the most pressing industry issues and trends and unparallelled networking opportunities.

Oaklawn Park President Louis Cella is set to kick off the Symposium by delivering this year’s keynote address. Under Cella's leadership, Oaklawn Park has achieved remarkable success, including the expansion of its racing calendar, the construction of a $100 million casino-hotel, and the introduction of new fan-friendly entertainment options. These innovations have led to increased betting handle and on-track attendance.

While other racetracks face contraction, Oaklawn Park presents a compelling model of how to build a business through innovation while staying true to the core horse racing product. “Under Mr. Cella’s leadership, Oaklawn expanded their racing season into December while keeping both their on-track and simulcasting business strong,” said Robert Hartman, Race Track Industry Program Chair. “Their racing product continues to strengthen as evidenced by the winners of the 2024 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks both taking the Arkansas route.”

As a fourth-generation leader, Louis Cella continues a strong family legacy dating back to Oaklawn's founding 120 years ago. Symposium attendees can expect insights on integrating casino wagering and horse racing to support and expand the sport. Additionally, Cella will discuss how bold moves and investments in the industry can attract crowds and introduce a new generation of fans to horse racing. “Our success boils down to having a Regulatory body, HBPA and track management who work together for the well-being of the horse and the future of horse racing. In addition, Oaklawn would not be stronger than ever if not for the most supportive and knowledgeable fans in racing.”
